FISH LAKE TRAIL Virtual Tour
We ask at this point that trail users not travel the section of the Fish Lake Trail from Scribner Road to Fish Lake, or the section over the Interstate north of the Lindeke Trailhead. There are significant liability issues for the city on both of those areas that could derail our efforts to get the trail done. Your help is appreciated.
It will eventually be possible to access the Fish Lake Trail from the Centennial Trail by coming across the Sandifur Bridge over the Spokane River and through People's Park/High Bridge Park to Sunset and Government Way. The trail actually starts behind the Church at Government Way and Sunset.
The trail goes to Fish Lake paralleling 195, Marshall Road and then Spokane-Cheney Road along the railroad byway between two active train railways. It is a combination of gravel/rock and pavement. It crosses the active railways in 2 locations.
At Fish Lake it meets the Columbia Plateau Trail. From there one can get take a road into Cheney.
To ride or hike the trail a good access point is the intersection of 13th/Government Way/Lindeke Court.
From the intersection of Government Way and Sunset Blvd. (as if one were going toward the Finch Arboretum or the airport) turn left (south) on Government Way. It goes under I-90 and meets 13th and Lindeke.
Follow the trail to the right over a berm. The trail is gravel/rock here. It crosses the 16th Ave. bridge and then the Thorpe Ave. bridge. There are some cliffs along the trail - fossils have been found here. Watch out for Poison Oak/Ivy.
Folks live along this trail so please respect their property. They may be watching you...
Soon the trail will take you right next to Marshall Road. It seems to continue but you can see where people/bicycles have gone down to the road. On the other side is a bank with a dirt road up and rocks at the top to keep vehicles out. That is where you will need to cross the road and pick up the trail on the other side.
So its down on this side................................................................and up on the other side.
Continue on the other side and soon you will cross back over Marshall Road on this overpass. This is also another access point for the trail. It is about 1 mile from here to the paved section.
Some Trail Views:
Then comes the paved section about 4 miles from the start. It continues to the Scribner Road crossing.
There are not many wildflowers - probably not enough water but in the Spring you will see these if you are not speeding by on your bicycle.
